“Styled as a tongue-in-cheek protest group spawned from the terf ridden swamps of Mumsnet, MAD presents an exhilarating breath of fresh air into a stagnant London scene. With unrelenting happy hardcore and donk sets way into the small hours of the morning, you’d be amiss to miss this out.”
Hosted by squat party connoisseur and self proclaimed ‘donk clown’ Alterum, MAD puts queer joy, silliness, and TRUE euphoria at the forefront of its events. Gone are the days where we must endure g’d out twunks performing whackrobatics to the same four techno songs on repeat. MAD offers a new slaytriotic alternative to the mundane, malodorous and quite frankly mediocre matters which can oft be deemed utopian.
Unlike the infamous ‘queer utopias for $20’ tweet that made the rounds last year, MAD caps ticket prices so that they remain affordable to all queers no matter their financial situation. A true event by the people and for the people; their inaugural event saw an army of queers storm South London’s Venue MOT in a 420 afters like no other. Revellers were treated to a buffet of beats with Ryo Matsui kicking off the night. They were shortly followed by the continents hottest new duo, the Slayphex Twins who tore up the floor with a bouncy mix of tracks setting a high nrg tone for the night.
Adidas baddie Holly Warcup was up next, providing the gays, theys, and dolls with yet another iconic set; pure joy eminating throughout the room as Synth and Strings by Yomanda reveberated within the venue. Host Alterum was up next, serving up a toe-curling cacophony of silly tunes straight from the dank depths of Soundcloud. Donk royalty followed as 3DMA and Peggy Viennetta each launched hour long auditory assaults on the crowd with DJ Coke Nail ending with what was in my opinion one of, if not THE best parties I’d ever been to.
In all my years of raving I don’t think I’ve felt such ecstasy from a single event. It really was one for the history books.
RAVE RATING: ★★★★★
BEST PART: 3DMA’s track Alien Invasion or the donk remix of ‘What’s new Scooby Doo’
WORST PART: Going home :===========================================
